What to do in Cannes: the local guide (Croisette, Suquet, Lérins)
Beyond the red carpet, Cannes is an ideal base for discovering the Côte d'Azur. Here are our local pointers for enjoying the city, then venturing out to the finest sites on the Riviera.
The heart of Cannes
The Croisette and its palace hotels set the tone, but don't miss the Suquet, the old hilltop quarter, for its narrow streets and views over the bay. The Forville market, the Palais des Festivals and the harbour round out a first day on a human scale.
For a touch of nature, the Lérins Islands — Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat — are just a few minutes by boat from the old port.
Parking and getting around
Parking along the Croisette is limited and in high demand during the season. Many visitors prefer to entrust their travel to a private chauffeur: no more hunting for a space, drop-off as close as possible, and freedom over your schedule.
It is also the most relaxed way to string together several points of interest in a single day, without any worry about parking or traffic.
Exploring from Cannes
In under an hour, you can reach Antibes and its Cap, Mougins and its gastronomy, Grasse and its perfumes, or even Monaco and Saint-Tropez for the day. A chauffeur who knows the region optimises the route and lets you enjoy the scenery.
For lovers of hilltop villages and panoramas, Èze and the Verdon Gorges are among our favourite excursions from Cannes.
