Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez: enjoying the regatta and getting there
In late September and early October, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez offer one of the finest sailing spectacles in the Mediterranean: great traditional yachts and racing sailboats compete in the gulf before the village. Here is how to enjoy it — and reach Saint-Tropez without the traffic jams.
A legendary regatta in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez
Les Voiles gather a spectacular fleet each autumn: century-old schooners, grand classics and modern sailboats cross the water, while the quay and the Tour du Portalet offer prime vantage points over the starts and finishes.
The event blends top-level sport with the Tropezian art of living, with a festive atmosphere in the harbour and the village throughout the week of racing.
When and where: late September to early October
The event is traditionally held from late September to early October, a milder period than summer but one that draws a large international crowd. Saint-Tropez then sees heavy footfall, without the absolute saturation of high summer.
Reaching Saint-Tropez away from the traffic jams
Road access to the village remains the sensitive point: the peninsula has only a limited number of routes, quickly congested during events. From Nice Airport or Cannes, allow one to two hours depending on traffic.
A chauffeur who knows the gulf picks the best time slot and drop-off point, and saves you from hunting for scarce parking far from the harbour.
The comfort of a private chauffeur
Being driven means enjoying the coast road and its panoramas rather than enduring the traffic. On arrival, drop-off as close as possible to the harbour; on the way back, pick-up at the agreed time, without depending on last-minute availability during race week.
What to do around the regatta
Between race days, the village invites you to wander: the harbour, La Ponche, the lanes and the terraces. A chauffeur can also take you to Ramatuelle, Gassin or the beaches of Pampelonne, just a few minutes away.
