Cannes → Monaco: all your travel options
From Cannes to Monaco, several routes await: the motorway for speed, the corniches for the panorama, the train for economy, or the private chauffeur for door-to-door. Here is how to choose based on your plans.
Distance and travel time
Monaco lies east of Cannes, beyond Nice, about 55 to 60 kilometres away. Under normal conditions, allow roughly an hour via the A8 motorway.
At peak times, in summer or during the Grand Prix, that time rises noticeably: an early departure remains the best guarantee of punctuality.
Motorway or corniches?
The A8 is the most direct and fastest route, set back from the coast. The three corniches — Basse, Moyenne and Grande — instead offer a memorable drive through Villefranche-sur-Mer, Èze and La Turbie, with striking views over the Mediterranean.
Slower, the corniches are worth the detour when you want the journey to be part of the discovery rather than a mere connection.
Train, bus or private chauffeur
The regional train links Cannes to Monaco in about an hour, sometimes with a change: an economical and scenic option. A private chauffeur, by contrast, collects you at your hotel and drops you in the heart of the Principality, with no parking worries — costly and limited in Monaco.
For a day out, the chauffeur offers the freedom to organise the Casino, the Rock and Port Hercule at your own pace, with pick-up whenever you wish.
For a day in Monaco
A day return is entirely feasible. Along the way, a stop at the hilltop village of Èze or at Villefranche-sur-Mer enriches the outing without adding too much to the drive.
Our chauffeurs, rated 5.0/5 from 38 Google reviews, adjust the route in real time to your wishes and the traffic.
Events: Grand Prix and Yacht Show
During the Formula 1 Grand Prix or the Monaco Yacht Show, traffic thickens and some access points are filtered. Booking ahead and entrusting the trip to a chauffeur who knows the workable drop-off points avoids many hold-ups.
